New range of Handmade Silver & Crystal Healing Jewellery

This is my first listing in the Jewellery Section of the online shop. I am really happy! I love making Jewellery, it's something so very personal and spiritual. Wearing metals and crystals from the Earth against your skin, feeling its energy, it becomes like a tatoo that you can take off and change whenever you need to....
I graduated from University of Central England as a qualified Jeweller and Silversmith, but because I went on to teach, I have never had the opportunity to really pursue this passion of mine. Now I can!
This bracelet has been designed to encourage fertility and creativity.
It is made of sterling silver wire which I have shaped lovingly to give four decorative elements. These are threaded onto four decorative and functional elements which have two types of crystal chip attached.

Crystals work best when kept next to the skin as the skin absorbs the crystal's energies.

Rose Quartz is said to be the stone of love and encourages peacefulness and emotional balance, allowing the perfect state for heightened fertility.

Carnelian, the brown/beige crystal, is said to aid fertility by increasing inner receptivity. It also facilitates concentration and balances creativity, so is perfect for meditation of any kind, but especially when wanting to become pregnant.

This bracelet also has sterling silver fluted Rombo beads and a silver Carabiner clasp.

I am working on a 'Fertility Gift Set' in which this bracelet will be included. The sets will consist of a Greetings card taken from my original painting of the Norse Goddess of Fertility, the bracelet, an affirmation card to carry in a wallet or purse and a Chrysophrase crystal upon which to meditate, which is a wonderful aid to fertility and creativity.

I would like to post some photos of the bracelet, as my online shop only lets me post two, one of those being a mini 'thumbnail' photo that you can't really see at all........
So here is my bracelet! Expect more, and very soon!

Serena

Wishing you all a Happy Hippy October...this is what we're up to this month

I love October.

Firstly it's my birthday month- but I don't really wish to remember the fact that I'm another year older and that ANOTHER year has literally wizzed by my face with hardly any recollection of it! It's because I love it when I know Libra is in the sun phase. Makes me feel like it's my time to shine. Plus the weather is phenomenal here in UK at the moment so that kind of makes it even more joyous!
Most of all I love it for ALL HALLOW'S EVE or Halloween as it's weirdly better known to all! Spooky times and lots of meditating with candles! Going outside for that midnight walk! BUT! Trying to explain to people what the REAL meaning of the celebration is.......ANNOYING. I will be writing a whole seperate blog on this subject very soon along with a little promo for my Hallow's Eve cards that will be available in my online shop:
Birds Become Fishes Online Shop
So, just as an 'October Opening' blog, this is what I've done lately regarding arty crafty stuff!

Butterflies from Towards the Heavens painting~using digital camera

As I no longer have use of my mobile phone cam, which I always thought took the BEST photos, I am back to using my little Sony digital. MUCH better than what I remembered!

I will be listing these designs in the SHOP very soon. Meanwhile, if you want to see all of the colour range, please visit my Facebook Page:

Ideas for All Hallow's Eve Cards

My thoughts about this are:
I don't like stereotypical, recycled, shallow images. Halloween is generally thought of as witches, ghosts and ghouls which is fine because that's what (in very simple terms) Hallow's Eve is about. BUT it is also about connecting and communicating with our ancestors and family members who have passed away, seeking their advice and allowing spiritual messages to come through. So, what better symbol of a spirit fleetingly visiting the land of the living, than a butterfly?
The light is shining through the flight path of the butterflies, illuminating the midnight hour in a shimmering glow of enlightenment.
It has a moody, almost eerie atmosphere, but it's not frightening.
Other ideas for All Hallow's Cards to come. They will be available in the SHOP.

Finally:

Some odds and ends that I'm still deciding what to do about:

Angel of the night sky, from a painting I did a year ago. it's a mixed media piece with more detail than shown here. This is the best feature I think, the face. The wings are beautiful too:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as to whether this could be a card, or something else...........?

Look out for my next blog: All Hallow's Eve; the real celebration!

Blessed Be to all

Colour Therapy and Healing

I have always loved playing around with colour. During my art college years I would sit for hours just mixing paint and staring in awe at how the hues and tones changed, sometimes subtley and sometimes drastically. So much so that I would find myself gasping outloud. One colour in particular has always made me stop in my tracks, wherever I have seen it. (Not often though, it's quite rare!) It's a kind of violet, but not purple. Not blue and not lilac....I don't know why, it just puts me in a state of deep meditation! It engulf me!

I posted in a previous blog about my favourite colour. I believe there are two ways of looking at your favourite colour. On one hand, it describes you as a person, your character. Now this can change over time, we all evolve and that's why people may change their favourite colours throughout their lives. On the other hand, it may denote what you are lacking in your life. For example I have a tendency to open all the curtains as wide as possible if I feel low. I need the sun, I need yellow. I would probably say that yellow was my 'favourite' colour at that moment in time because I need it emotionally.
Lately I have been lusting after a certain green as well, but I don't know what it's called. Here it is on the walls, I find it so relaxing. I need to chill out!

Imagine a room in both these colours.....

So, anyway, let's get to the fun part, talking about how colour can make a huge difference to our lives. I have been reading a lot about this lately, I think that being a painter, the effect that my use of colour has on people is very important.
So what is colour?
Colour is simply light of varying wavelengths and, as such, is a form of energy. Within the visible spectrum of wavelengths, we have different colours. The longest are the reds and the shortest are the purples, with the other colours falling inbetween with their order of wavelength. On either end of the spectrum are infrared and ultraviolet lights which are also perceptible by other creatures such as snakes and honey bees.
Microwaves and X-rays can destroy living things and the sun has the power to destroy with its long and short waves. These are filtered out by the ozone layer which is being destroyed. The sun is ultimately a life giver and healer and was worshipped as such by the Ancients. This is why Yellow is the most uplifting colour of all.
The use of Colour as a Therapy is a truly holistic, non-invasive and powerful therapy which dates back thousands of years; evidence of this can be found in ancient texts from India, China and Egypt.
This light energy affects all living cells (as we all know, without light all living things are affected). Used in the right way, these different frequencies of light, i.e. colour, can have a profound and healing effect on all creation, human or otherwise. It is a well know scientific fact that everything has a vibration, that is to say that all things have their own vibration/frequency, and that includes us.
The Human body responds to colour through its various vibrations which correspond with the body's vibrations. Each part of the body resonates to a different colour, so when we are ill or emotionally troubled, we can use the appropriate colours to harmonize our vibrations and restore balance.
The general associations of the colours are as follows. (It gets more complicated as you look into hues, combinations of colours and each colour sending more than one signal. Some colours send positive signals, the others send negative ones.)

Reds, oranges and yellows are WARM and give a feeling of ENERGY, EXCITEMENT and JOY. Here in Van Gogh's painting 'Cafe Terrace at Night,' he deliberately uses indigo and blues for the night sky which juxtapose directly with the yellows and oranges of the candlelight. It makes you feel so warm and secure. You want to BE in that cafe!

Blues, indigos and purples are CALMING and COOLING. They QUIETEN the temperament and induce RELAXATION. However, too much can make us feel depressed and sad, as in Picasso's painting 'The Tragedy':

When we are well and healthy we will probably like most colours, but emotional and physical problems will tend to bring out preferences as I mentioned before. Another example is being attracted to red when you feel exhausted or run down, and blues when you need to rest and heal.
Next Entry: A Breakdown of each colour and how we can relieve emotional imbalances with them.

Wishing everyone a Happy, Fulfilling and Prosperous Mabon!
Special wishes to all Librans, we're basking in those Sun's Rays until October 23rd!

Mabon~ The Autumn Equinox is the time when the Neopagan Sabbat of Mabon is celebrated.

Also called Harvest Home, which is a ritual of thanksgiving for the fruits and natural abundance of the Earth, it is a recognition of the need to share them to secure the blessings of the Goddess and God during the winter months.

Mabon is considered a time of the Mysteries. It is a time to honor Aging Deities and the Spirit World. Considered a time of balance, it is when we stop and relax and enjoy the fruits of our personal harvests, whether they be from tending to flowers and plants in our gardens, working at our jobs, raising our families, or just trying to make the best of the challenges of everyday life.

I hope you all like my little ''offering'' to the Goddess and Gods in all of us!
Goddess Demeter had a covenant with death~all that dies shall be reborn. This is reflected in our Natural Seasons and Cycles as flowers and plants grow, die and bloom again in Spring.
The same is for our work, our efforts to make a success of things whether that is personally, professionally or otherwise. Now is the time when everything pays off!
(This relates to me right now. I have worked tirelessly for the whole summer in getting the business off the ground. Hoping to see some orders coming in!)

It is also a very important time for me being a Libran.
Today, 23rd September, the sun enters Libra!
I've been feeling really out of sorts lately so this should clear away all that weirdness.
Librans are always seeking balance (Agreed!! All work and no play ~  what does THAT make Serena? Eeeek!) and at this time, the powers of light and dark are equal as the season turns. Libra represents the point of the soul's evolution where the focus is on outward manifestation for the last time before turning inwards.

So, as I said in my little arty offering above:

Actualize the fulfillment of your dreams!

Blessed Be,
Serena

Some photos of me....I DO work, REALLY! I had to wait for some paint to dry.....:)

So, I'm designing some Pagan Yule Cards, a market much needed and in demand by what I can see. Me and John are really into the ideas presented by the Zeitgeist movie (2007) which talked about how Christian religion (and many others) have created the images, ideas and stories about Jesus and Christmas/Easter from the ancients and their relationship to the SUN. Please take a look at the Zeitgeist film, it really is thought provoking and poses many many questions, revealing many possible explanations as to how we have come to recognize and (mis)use symbols such as the cross.
